Anne Samat
Melaka, Malaysia , 1973
BIO
“All of my works are metaphors for the country of Malaysia: a blend of tradition with modernisation, pairing and preserving the old with the new.” In addition to promoting the woven tradition into the modern era, she is pioneering contemporary weaving to unmatched levels. Indeed there are no known weavers in Malaysia with the vision and passion for contemporary weaving that Anne has. Normally, she uses the typically Malaysian songket and weave motifs in all of her weaving work. On the other hand, she prefers to present her finished work in a more contemporary way thereby creating her ultimate goal – a unique and more dynamic style.
